Using this web page you can create vcard files that Volkswagen RNS 510 can use as temporary destinations or store in its memory for later use. Somehow this page is a substitute for Volkswagen NAV companion; using this page it is easier to create destination files but you must know the exact coordinates of your destination (Google Earth is recommended for finding coordinates based on street addresses).
You need to fill in the form and the text in vcard format will be
created automatically.
You may use notepad (windows) or TextEdit (mac) to create the .vcf file
by using copy and paste. Alternatively you may click "create file" and
the vcf file will be created and downloaded to your computer.
This vcf file must be stored in a folder called destinations in
a memory card (SD card) that you can insert in the dashboard of the car.
When you insert the card you may choose to set an new destination by
directly selecting a file in the SD card, or you may choose import
destinations from the SD card in the memory of RNS 510.
I personally find it very useful to work on the home computer to locate a destination using Google Earth. Then create a vcard file using this page and save it to my SD memory. When I get into the car I don't need to enter the address typing on the screen, but just select the destination directly from the SD card. Moreover, by entering the location in terms of Latitude/Longitude there are no mistakes with some addresses that are inconsistent among different mapping programs (Google Maps, Apple Maps, TomTom, Tele Atlas, Garmin, MapQuest, Here, Waze, Michelin, etc.)
